You cannot possibly have a well developed understanding of graphic design in 6 months. There are a lot of nuances and rules about typography and design that even after two years worth of design classes, 4 year university graduates are still not considered good designers in the perspective of the whole industry.
Private institutes teach useless and very simple things. Better try to find work either for free or by giving gifts to experienced pro's.
