A building surveyor will determine what is wrong and so will a good builder, but some so called builders can't tell their **** from their elbow. A surveyors report will not affect your insurance. If there is subsidence a surveyor will tell you to get a report from a structural engineer because the report will advise on how to remedy the fault. This is expensive because the structural engineer passes on the the very costly insurance he takes out to cover himself in case he makes a mistake. I am a retired builder who specialised in rescuing dangerous buildings so know the format. If I was in your shoes I would go for the builder(a good one). He will prepare the report, do the job and issue the guarantee. Good luck.
you need to get a STRUCTURAL ENGINEER to look at this properly, he will be the only one with sufficient expertise to advise you
have been in touch with insurance company about cracks in my property and am suspecting house movement or subsidence they have advised me to get a builder to have a look at it, I would feel more comfortable with a surveyors report my question is if I get a surveyor and not a builder would this have any effect on my insurance
thankyou in advance of any answers
