You can shake some of the bugs off and lightly brush the other ones off. They like dampness and keeping the comic books in a dry place will keep the bugs away.

Borax only works on cockroaches.

The very last thing you want to put on paper or plastic is pesticides, which will saturate the items and cause issues with anyone touching it. If anyone rubs at their eyes you have a transfer of toxic chemicals put in the eye. Do NOT do something like that.

A color change due to the chemicals is the last of your worries....
