Tile. Carpets are supposed to be replaced every 5 or so years. Carpets also collect dirt and dander! Tile lasts much longer that hard wood with pets without getting scratched up.
I'm going to get tile that looks like wood.
I go for tile. Cleaning for the rest of the choices are all kinda hard but what stands out for tile is that they still look good even if they are partially cleaned or just wiped by mop or some cloth.
Carpets are hard to clean, especially if you have pets. Hardwood floors look nicer than tile, in my opinion.
I'm in the NE so my preferences now are different than when I live in the South...tile only in the South! Here in the NE, tile for kitchen and bath, hardwood for main living spaces, hardwood or carpeting for bedrooms (those cold winter mornings!).
Carpet collects dirt, pet hair on other eco-stuff. Hard woods are great if you don't have pets or excessive dirt to scratch. Tile is great as far as keeping clean. sweep and damp mop. Done.
