Doing upgrades to my home, want opinions?

I think an iron gate would be a distraction from the yard. How about an arbor that way you could have vines like Wisteria or Trumpet Vines growing up; and all over the arbor which would attract humming birds and add something beautiful to walk under.

oddly i agree with all the above......

the prison thing is more clearly said as this..." it may actually drop the value of your property by making the neighborhood look dangerous enough to require a iron gate at your door."

for a bigger impact in the front yard i would go with plantings.....use things which do not require a whole lot of upkeep....

I think iron door at front door is good idea for security purpose,in fact every one should have that."Too much iron" thing is not that necessary factor, first of all our & our house security must be the top most priority.

You wanted my opinion ... okay I think it would look awful, Personally it would make me feel like I was living in a prison, such a lovely home too - shame but each to their own I guess. PS: a nice big flower bed wouldn't go amiss in the centre of the lawn !

You should to add flower at your front home. It will be great.

My husband and I are in the process of remodeling and doing upgrades to our home. We recently put an iron gate in our driveway and are thinking about putting one at our front door. My husband and I are having problems agreeing with each other. He likes the idea of an iron gate at the front door but he says it might be to much iron in the front since we already have a big one in the driveway. I disagree. I think an iron gate at the front door would add more curb appeal and to much iron isn't necessarily a bad thing as iron is beautiful in my opinion. Here is a picture of our house. You can kind of see the gate in the driveway. Do you think we should put one at the front door or would it be to much iron? The gate would start where the brick and concrete meet and the poles would go in the flowerbeds.
