.Usually houses do not get flooded SO paying extra for something that may never happen in your lifetime makes no sense. Paint is part of the water resistance coating.
. They at the store will outfit you with all the stuff you need. That will mean a big box of screws and a battery powered screw gun. I use my 3/8 electric variable speed drill with a light finger on the trigger...as you want the screw head to dimple the paper but not rip it. These screws cannot be hammered as the heads will break off.
. Or you could go for drywall nails and hammer it in just under flush with the surface so it does not rip the paper. They will show you how in the store. Then you need a 12 inch cement trowel, a 6", a 4" and maybe a 2" plastic drywall knives to spread in those areas that the 12" does not fit in. Drywall tape and "ASK THEM HOW WHY AND WHERE it is used.
If there was insulation behind the drywall, those pockets must be dried out using a fan. Sometimes it is worth just throwing the insulation away, dry out the wooden pocket and stuff in the same insulation(new dry stuff) and then staple on a vapor barrier onto the studs. Now you are ready for drywall. ASK THEM WHO SELL THE STUFF, THEY KNOW AND CAN GIVE YOU A PAMPHLET on it .
Don't buy Drywall if you think your basement is at risk of flooding again, there are other options.
Of course, if it was a plumbing leak and not an accident you expect to repeat, get whatever you want.
Buy the purple drywall, it's mold/mildew resistant.
The green is moisture resistant, but not mold.
Just make sure you get the same thickness.
I'm 're doing my basement room because it flooded, and the drywall got mildewed on the bottom, so we knocked out the bottom half of the dry wall, and now I need to go get more drywall. But I have no idea what kind to buy or how to put it in and what tools to do it with . I'm gonna go to home depot and I was looking online at their drywall and there's all different kinds like ultra like and all that and idk what kind to buy. Can someone help me?
