There seems to be a trend right now in using crow silhouettes in fabrics and wall coverings. Perhaps doing one wall of the room with a roll or two of wallpaper with crows in tree branches. There are also wallpapers that look like shelves of antique books that would create the look of a Victorian study if applied to a feature wall. Damask pattern wallpapers in deep colors would also add to the ambiance. Do you ever watch the modern "Sherlock Holmes" series on PBS? His apartment on the show has good examples of a modern version of that decor. You might find shots of it on line to use for idea. Just paste this phrase into Google search:

Thrift stores and junk shops are good sources for dark, carved furniture and old type lamps and fancy framed mirrors and prints and oddball items -- "gothic revival" pieces are cheap and plentiful. Oriental type rugs add to that kind of atmosphere too.
Old world style..A highly polished wood desk. A standing globe. Heavy solid maroon curtains. All white bedding..With a black heavy material throw folded on top the bed. A sea chest at the foot of the bed. A few hooks hanging on one wall..and a large ornate mirror..candles, and sconces.
You definitely need a raven and a Cheshire cat of some sort. And a cask of Amontiago wine. Maybe even a queen of hearts? It should be fun.
Good luck.
You get some ideas for colours from the Masque of the Red Death - a succession of differently coloured rooms. Try seeing the Roger Corman film versions which give some stunning schemes.
Okay, so I like reading Edgar Allan Poe and I thought why not give my room a theme. I do not want it Goth or satanic but kinda vintage. Like old keys, clocks, bird cages, ETC. I think the colors that would look good would be black, white,a darker red and a dark purple. I just need some decor ideas. I thought about checking out goodwills and local antique stores but kinda expensive. DIY projects would be wonderful! I really do not want skeletons or anything to do with Halloween even though its fitting with this room theme. I like the thought of taking vintage keys and hanging them from the ceiling and having old clocks on the walls. Maybe having "The Raven" by Poe painted or photographed onto the wall. Anyone have any really cool ideas? I really dont have alot of money to put into this so if I have to buy anything it needs to be kinda low priced :) Thank you! (any thing you would change please let me know)
