Sauder furniture is plastic resin coated MDF. It doesn't take paint very well and if you sand it, the finish is damaged and ruined. Some types of paint have solvents that will pucker the plastic and most will not adhere. Rustoleum makes a faux finish paint for laminate countertops (same resin as the furniture finish) that would probably work. But Sauder furniture is already pretty cheap and junky -- I think it would look even worse if you tried to faux finish it.
