First layer of grey paint looks purple?

Grey may seem to look purple at first. Just wait for the paint to dry too see if there is still a purplish tone to it.

Scared? Of what? You think the painter is going to throw his brushes at you because the colour isn't what you thought it was going to be? Who chose it? So they made a mistake. It's only paint. It often does look different once it's on the wall. Use another kind of gray on top. Some greys have blue or purple tones, some have yellowish tones, some have neither. Pay close attention when you pick the next colour of gray, comparing it to others to see if it appears one colour or the other. Ask the people mixing the paint what colours go into it. If there's red in the mix, it will appear purple.

It was NOT too late to say some thing . If you don't like the work, say some thing ! You hired the painter.

youve a good eye as gray is a derivative of the color purple and is used as a base color in the mixing process as it drys if properly mixed it will lighten in color and your gray tone will shine thru dont panic

When paint dries, it dries differently than how it looks wet. See how it looks when it dries, and if it's still purple, talk to the painter.

The first coat is an undercoat - and is not visible once the top coat is applied.

Before I went out for lunch today, my painter came to paint my bedroom a grey colour. He finished about the first coat before I left him on his own, and instead of a pale grey colour it was a lavender or lilac. It was too late to say anything because all the walls already had the first layer. I really don't want a lilac wall as all my other furniture/decorations I bought are black, white or grey. Will the paint turn a grey colour with more layers, or when I get back am I doomed with purple forever? :P
