Hanging a Curtain next to my room?

You can use a spring tension rod either in a doorway or between walls. These are often intended to hold shower curtains, but will work for light to medium weight drapes. http://www.bmtutorials.com/wp-content/up... They won't stand being yanked on though.

Curtains alone are insufficient to cancel sound. If you don't have a door to your room, you can install a second set of curtains inside your doorway using regular drapery hardware to hold the thickest fabric you can find. Twin-size blankets are 66" x 90". One will easily cover a doorway and be sufficiently thick to muffle sound when gathered and hung so they touch the floor. You can use iron-on seam tape to create the pocket for the curtain rod to pass through. Iron-on tape may not stand up to washing and drying. There are lots of brands and some may work better than others. If nothing else, safety pins will work to hold the rod pocket together.

Not sure. Talk to a professional.

Odd question but I'm moving into a town house my room is on the first floor and there's a hallway leading to my room and my bathroom is right when you enter the short hallway to my room, I live in Athens and we all know it's a party school and I work full time while being in school and my roommate tends to sing a d has people over what kind of draps or curtain can I hang at the entrance of my hallway to cancel sound, and have privacy from the living room since by bathroom isn't in my room?
