Attic fans are most definitely energy efficient. You will save money in the summer because cooling costs outstrip cost of the fan by a long shot. If you are looking for a fan, you can easily take a look at our website and see if the attic fans we offer are to your tastes.
There is no energy savings to putting the utilities on the top floor. Seems it would be a hassle really.
When I make a house I want the first floor to be the living room, kitchen, dining area, storage closet, and a half bath. Then I want the second floor to have 3 bedrooms (all with closets) and a full bath. Then here's the interesting part... I want the third floor to have a washer/dryer, water heater, heat/ac system, entertainment room, and storage closet. Plus a room with a closet and half bath. And the attic to have an attic fan. The main reason I want to do this is so that I can save on energy on ac and it would be more efficient so that I wouldn't have to turn the ac on a lot in the summer months. I think it would be good because much of the ac wouldn't be concentrated in the basement (if I were to have one) It would be in the upstairs and the second floor of the house wouldn't be so hot as apposed to having it in the basement (If I were to have one). Would this work? Would this be energy efficient? I also want energy efficient windows, walls, and an energy efficient roof.
