Might sound silly, but it's actually practical and kind of fun: a battery operated automatic opening stainless steel trash can for the kitchen or bathroom. I've given them to a bunch of people for housewarming and shower gifts and they all love them. You just wave your hand above the can and the lid opens so you can pitch trash in. What I do to make them custom and funny is to use stickers to put eyes and teeth on the lid so it looks like you are feeding a robot or monster with it's mouth gaping open..
You could buy a set of funny bobbleheads, to make them standing in front of the new house,

i'd go for bungee chairs. If you haven't seen them, they're egg-shaped chairs that are a web of bungee cords and you just sink into them. Brookstone usually has them, but "bungee chair" search in amazon will do it, too.
theyre like the perfect chair for gaming or hanging out and watching TV and they fold up and out of the way when you don't need them.
