There is a cage called a "Have a Heart" that traps animals without harming them. A hardware or farm supply store will be able to help you pick the appropriate size and bait. Then you drive them out into the country far far away and let them go.
However, squirrels are invasive rodents and will probably return to your attic. I would recommend giving an exterminator a call and asking them what they recommend. You may need to have professional help to remove them.
And it may not be possible to do it without hurting them, so tell the exterminator you don't want to know what happens after he's removed the squirrels.
Step 3: Find where they're getting in and repair the hole, fast. Otherwise you'll be repeating the previous steps constantly.
