If you are having some of your items moved with the rest of your family, it needs to be boxed, with the boxes either packed full or with packing material to fill them so they do not get crushed. Tape shut and either label them with your name & a list of everything that is in there, or with your name and a code number that relates to a list you keep elsewhere of what is in each box.
How much room will you have in your new place? Moving in isn't like staying a week, it is permanent. You need space to store what clothes you have..........find out what you'll have for furniture and if you need to bring a dresser. Stuff you need to store should be minimal as you are imposing on these people. A couple of big Rubbermaid bins should be all you bring. I'd avoid boxes for fear of bringing along insects. Photos whatever should be minimal. If you have more........stuff...........find out if you will have storage options otherwise you'll need to rent storage.

i would decide what to keep out, and what to box up and store. Probably would box things up in plastic containers, versus cardboard, and clear ones to see what's in it without having to open it and go through it.
Go to the local grocery or liquor store and ask them for empty boxes. Pack everything you own in the boxes load them and any furniture you have into a van or truck and take them with you. Don't move little by little - move it all at the same time and then it's done. If you don't own much, you won't have to pack much; it's that simple.
yes
pack lightly
My mother and younger brother are moving to another state, and I'm staying behind for work, moving in with a friend and her family. So basically, I have to pack up my room and take everything to a house 15 minutes away from where I live now. I don't have a lot of things; I don't even have "winter clothes" that I don't wear now. I've been told that I should move little by little, but like I said I don't have a lot, and everything I do have, I use.
