generally speaking single family residential wooden framed bedroom floors of newer constructed homes are designed (or should be) to a 30 lb. per square foot weight load, I have no idea if yours is or isn't
Get someone in to inspect the flooring. I have a 2nd floor room full of bookshelves full of books and it seems to hold up. But I don't think it is that much total weight. Hire a house inspector to look at it, cheaper than having a collapse and losing the machines on top of that.
I just bought a house built in 2001 in Garland, Texas.
I want to use a 2nd floor room which measures 13 X 11 for pinball machines (a game room).
As it is now, the floor already "creaks" a little when you walk on it with the room empty.
I tried to find the 2001 building code for Garland online and had no luck.
This is a slab home (if foundation type helps).
This room is above a small bedroom as well as a part of the master bedroom.
This room is on an exterior wall and the veneer outside is all brick (no siding).
Each pinball machine weighs about 300 pounds.
Each person playing the machines weighs about 200 pounds (in theory).
I can fit 7 pinball machines in the room but with 7 machines, if they are all being played at the same time, that could be 3500 pounds total (based on above numbers for weight of person plus machine). Is this too much weight??? Long term, will it affect the structure or foundation???
If so, how much can I safely put in the room?
