How to humanely get rid of ants?

Sweep up the ants and then sprinkle powdered cloves heavily in areas you think they might be getting at.

Sweep up any food debris or they will simply find a new path in because they will be interested in finding what they smell.

I used to use the cloves when my kids were small because I didn't want poison out where the kids could get into it and the cloves worked pretty well.

It's hard to humanely remove the ones you have already inside, but if you have a stream like that you likely have an opening somewhere (to the outside or to the crawl space or basement) that you can plug right up.

....I first identify where the port of entry is (often on my hands and knees or on a countertop, etc, and often with a good flashlight).

....Then I spray the stream of ants with soap and water or with an orange-type spray cleaner which stops them immediately, and wipe them up. (There seems to be something about the orange oil or odor, and I believe vinegar also works--some of those products contain vinegar).

....Then I plug the hole, usually just using a tube of caulk (usually silicone).

They won't come back in that entry, but they may find others into your house (and especially during times of low water when they'll be looking for water, and when drenching rains flood their underground homes). During those times or right after plugging a hole, be sure not to have any water or food on the areas outside the hole to tempt them.

If you can't plug the entries for some reason, spray those areas with orange spray (or orange wood and furniture clear spray is thicker and stays longer). That seems to repel them quite well.

If you don't plug the hole or keep killing them, they will eventually go away but it may take weeks and they're likely to return at other times.

(You can always use ant traps/bait, but I've found they usually don't work very well. And even if they do work, it takes days for them to take enough of the poison back to the nest to stop the invasion.)

Btw, some people swear by other materials left outside the entries (bay leaves, cloves, nutmegs, powdered cayenne pepper, and diatomaceous earth and boric acid which kills them, etc.), but some of those don't last long or just coincide with when they would have gone away anyway. And some are toxic to pets and small kids.

.

stomp them out and spray Raid all over the kitchen

Ello Mate, at my home we spray then with windex. My mother also said that if you put lemon juice the counter they will stick in it and then you can wipe them up.

you need potato juice, twelve toad's farts, and half a martians ear-band.

use your regular unicorn, i bought mine i walmart. you put the potato juice in the tip of the toe of a tic tac toe game and tip the tippy top and topple it over. spray 987.899 milligrams of toad farts over their thorax DO NOT SPRAY ANY FARTS OVER THEIR LEGS this will make them grow up to ten feet high. you don't want giant ants, trust me. now, use the martian ear band as a magnet that attracts a chemical made when you mix the magic of tic tac toe, potato juice, and toad farts together. then release the ants in their natural habitat, cokeland

The blueberry was not uneaten, you just can't see their teeny little bite marks.

keep your house clean so they don't get attracted to come inside and use cloves as ckngbbbls said.

Vigorous wipe-down with white vinegar on all applicable surfaces.

Boric Acid. You can get it cheap every where. Just put it down where you see ants and it will desiccate them.

DON'T KILL THEM. THINK IF YOU WERE A ANT. SWEEP THEM UP , gently btw , don't kill them.

So there's a **** ton of ants in my kitchen. Earlier I saw a gigantic line of them sort of in between the floor and the wall where there was a small hole and a lot of them clustered around some unidentifiable object (I have bad vision). There's a fair amount walking around aimlessly. Will they just go away when they eat whatever is left on the floor, or are they gonna stay. On the floor i found an uneaten blueberry and pistachio and it's not very dirty. Any tips?
