Interior paint: greys or beiges?

Posted at: 2014-09-26
We are painting the inside of our house and see so many grays (greys) out there. Is it overdone or a new and lasting trend?

I think grey makes for dingy, dark rooms.

even if it is just an accent wall.

I prefer light airy rooms.

So if you want to follow the trend and paint grey, you will be repainting again in a year or two.

There is no such thing as a lasting trend in paint colors. Advertising makes sure that you know that whatever color you painted last year is now passe. You mentioned beiges. Beiges were hot 4-5 years ago. Now it's grey. Next year it'll be something else. Don't play the game. Pick colors that you like and are comfortable with. You'll be much better satisfied.

Grays are definitely in right now. Check out the interior design coming out of Northern Europe and you'll see. The concrete wall is something that's coming into style for the fall and Autumn. You can always contrast it with a colored rug as well or keep the monochrome look and do a gray rug like this one!

Grays are "in" right now in tile colors and wall paints. Long lasting? Not really since the trendy colors are advertised to drum up business at stores to sell product. I personally prefer warmer colors like beiges and tans, if only because they complement most furniture colors and styles, but that's MY opinion.

To hell with the "trends". Do you like grey? Then paint it grey. Don't like grey? Pick another color, one that you like. Start your own trend.
