Off makes candles in little tubs and bottles of repellent to put on you. Cutter does too. These can be found in grocery stores and other stores.
Bounce fabric softener sheets work for some people. Avon regular Skin so Soft bath oil works for some people and not for other people. It worked for years for my sister.
There are plants that repel them, but mine died. One is called a mosquito plant.
Mosquitos lay eggs in water in the gutters and old tires and even in a small lid. Not letting any water stand around helps.
I had a bad problem and got one of the propane powered foggers. Works very well to clear them from the immediate area. They are not coming from the swamp to your yard, they live there. If you can kill off those in your yard, it doesn't matter if they live next door. Mosquitos don't travel far from where they were born. You can clear your yard even if neighbors don't.
Bats are excellent, too. They each eat thousands in a day.
Bats are good. I live nearby and when it rains, they come out something terrible. You need to wear protective clothing and unfortuneately spray yourself so you don't get bitten. The county comes by here and sprays and that really helps. YOu will probably have to do that yourself if you locality doesn't spray. It sounds like they should and you may need to inquire and find out if they do and why they don't come by your place. There are sprays the move the mosquitoes away and I'm not sure if those bug lites do in mosquitoes. I live by water in south Texas and I put out a bug light because there were just so many bugs. It burnt its self out in a small amount of time but I figured I really lowered the bug population. Mosquitoes carry diseases that are awful for you and your pets. Be sure your pets are protected and tested on a regular basis to be sure they are healthy. I've planted some things that bring in bats and I see them around and glad to do so. I hate to spray indiscriminately because I see bugs here that I no longer saw up north. There are tons of fireflies and walking sticks and lady bugs and even a couple of praying mantis. They have been sprayed out of existence and I hate to see them go.
1) Buy a huge fan and put it outside, mosquitoes are so small that their flight can easily be disrupted and they can be deterred by something as little as a fan.
2) Buy a bat house and put it somewhere near your yard. Bats are 99% harmless to humans, they only come out at night so you never really see them, and they eat hundreds of mosquitoes a night. I guarantee you will see a drastic reduction in the number of mosquitoes if you have bats around.
Look up bat houses like this one:

Get mosquito dunks and put them in standing water you can't drain. Also you can get mosquito repellant granules. Go on Amazon to see what I'm talking about and you can buy them locally too.
Spray them with hairspray. The stickiness prevent them from using their wings. Works on Houseflies too.
Call your county health department or mosquito abatement district.
I have a severe mosquito problem. I mean thousands. Walk outside and your legs turn black, even middle of the day...............
How can I get this under control? I live 1/4 mile from a waterway. Swampy areas are nearby but not on my property. HELP, I am being eaten alive!!!
