Silverfish are generally nocturnal insects. They have elongated, wingless bodies covered with scales. They got their name from the silvery appearance of their skin and their fish-like shape. Silverfish like to be in dark, undisturbed places such as a library, a closet or wardrobe. These pests feed on anything that contains starch and protein. However, they can live without feeding for about a year. Nevertheless, in a house, there are many items that they can readily feed on.

You can try short wide glasses 3/4 full of white vinegar in window sills and other areas where you can leave them without inconvenience for a week or two. Many insects do not like the "fumes" from the white vinegar and vacate the locale.
To kill most insects on contact try a non-toxic mixture in a dollar store spray bottle. Note: Mix in large bowl in kitchen sink and beware as mixture will initially foam up and increase in volume rapidly. I recommend you mix a smaller amount first. Try: 2 cups white vinegar, 2 tablespoons baking soda, 2 tablespoons dish-washing liquid. Mix in bowl and allow to foam up. You can dilute with water if you prefer. Then pour mixture into spray bottles.
Repair any plumbing leaks or areas of excessive moisture. Be particularly diligent in cleaning and removing sources of food (flour, pancake mix, grains, cereal, crumbs from toaster, etc..). Silverfish are particularly evasive and can slither into the smallest of cracks. Seal any cracks or crevices with caulk. The fumes from vinegar might help. Be patient as it may take a week or two.
I second food grade diatomaceous earth. I also use EcoSMART Organic Insecticide. It's a spray that kills ants, carpenter ants, cockroaches, crickets, pill bugs, silverfish, spiders and other crawling insect. It's a poison free insecticide made with rosemary and cinnamon oils so it’s safe to use around children and pets.
The vacuum can take care of the spiders in the corners. And the webs can be sweep off with a broom. A shallow container with some cooking oil in it will attract the silver fish and take care of them.
I recently have seen two silverfish on my house in less than a week and i sometimes also see the tiny little spiders that are in the corners of the wall. I have a fear of bugs i want to get rid of them but i don't want to use toxic sprays because i have a pet and a kid in the house. Are they any home remedies to prevent or get rid of ?
