One idea is to mix similar colors and prints, from narrower curtains, in an advante garde sort of way -- something no one else has. Will be unusual, compliment a whole bunch of accessories in the house, and will be yours. Look for sales and your local thrift store. You seem to be very good at repurposing.
Buy a cheap set of coloured queen sized bedsheets & make curtains out of them or just put up with what's there, they aren't that bad.
I have just moved into what we would call a "granny flat" in Australia. An little 1 bedroom house built at the back of another house on the same block.
I am a huge fan of just picking stuff up off the street and with a little money updating it - the table and chairs you can see in the picture were being thrown out by someone and I saved the pieces recovered the chairs and glossed up the table..
ANYWAY the curtains are GROSS! Apologies to anyone who likes this sort of pattern but I am neutrals browns greens with pops of color not grandma floral!
Problem is they are about 12 feet wide and buying new curtains would cost several hundred dollars which I do not have. I can't use blinds etc. as the right side is the entrance to the "house".
Any ideas for a cheap alternative to replace them? They are on tracks and I have a friend who could sew on a pleated edge thingy (whatever you call it) to run the curtains on tracks ....
