did you puncture the membrane in the neck of the tube after you cut the desired angle?
the plunger will not release if the teeth (or friction latch) is dirty or full of caulking.
after you get the tube out, clean the entire gun with varsol or turpentine and put a little light oil on the plunger shaft.
When I press the trigger then go to pull back the plunger to get the caulk out, there is caulk coming out the back of the tube and the plunger is not releasing.
