you definitely need strength and stability also water proof wood, you can buy paint treatment for wood thats water proof but also make sure its not highly toxic or wont peel or come off, its permanent enough for childrens safety. smooth surface wood its important you dont want wood thats rough in the edges this can prick children and be a hazard. so smoothed sand down wood with formica wood is good too, just make sure you get quality glue that stays put together. avoid rotten wood or shredded wood furniture.
