Replacing carpet with wood or tile?

Here's a great solution: you can use WOOD PLANK self-stick tiles. They look just like hardwood, but they're just self-stick tile--and once you get the carpet out, remove all the nails and strips and padding and clean the floor, the project for a 10 X 10 room should take you about an hour and a half to lay! They look wonderful. They wear just like tile. And they're inexpensive! Hardwood would indeed throw off the balance of the house, it would be VERY expensive, and you really need a pro to lay it--it's not a job for an amateur. But these tiles can be cut with scissors, look just like wood and they can be installed very fast. Here's a link to the type of thing I'm talking about. http://www.homedepot.com/b/Flooring-Viny...

one thing to keep in mind is when you get up in the middle of the night wood and tile floors are extremily cold so if your not in the habit of wearing slippers as they are a must with those floor coverings

Hi.

So, in my bedroom i was thinking of tearing up the ratty old carpet and replacing it with some tile or hard wood flooring.

First off, which should i choose? Tile or wood? I know tile is more budget-friendly, but in a few years we are going to sell the house I am currently living in. Right before we do, we will replace all the flooring with tile. So... do you think the hard wood flooring in one of the bedrooms would throw off the balance of the house? I'm leaning toward tile, but what is your opinion?

Next, how expensive would it be to rip up the carpet and lay down tile? Would i be able to do that part on my own as an amateur or should i hire someone? The room is 10x10 ft

Lastly, how much time do you think this project would take? I am on a school break until August 18th. Would I have time to complete this project?

Thank you! Appreciate all and any help I can get and any advice or information you can offer on this particular matter!!
