A blockade over the doorway ( on the outside) is better..They allow this on all new builds and it passes codes.. Often I see a railing built and screwed to the outside trim. Rails are about 42" high with down rails every 4 " apart.... GL

any exterior doors needs to be a minimum of six inches off the ground or porch to prevent flooding..
