Timber Frame Structure?

Posted at: 2014-09-26
Does timber frame stucture needs base/foundation? Is the column visible from inside/outside? And is it able to hold the pressure of brick/stone wall or something heavy. Thank you.

All structures need at least a base.

Larger structures need a foundation to keep them stable.

There are methods which use wood as a foundation but it MUST be done properly or it will not last.

Brick/Stone walls should have proper concrete/masonry footings and foundations to support the weight.

The footings MUST be located on solid undisturbed soil that contains NO organic material.

Yes, to hold it in place. It won't hold without a firm foundation. The reason why trees with a strong root system reach down to grab hold of any rock buried down beneath the earth..will stand longer naturally.

Surely, there is no doubt, that without a base a timber frame structure would fall apart with time.
