Trying to get red paint?

I have bought red paint but is more orange when I opened the can and painted my first wall, if I put a bit of black paint in will that make it more red?

Do-it-yourself paint mixing almost never works. You end up messy, frustrated, and never get the result you want. In the long run, it is far better to admit that you got it wrong, and buy a new tin which is the right colour for you. Most good shops will have an extensive colour chart, and a mixing machine which will give you just the shade you want. Sure, it's a bit more expensive that way, but you will have to live with the colour for years probably ! You will never be satisfied with your d-i-y effort, and you will end up re-doing it anyway. Save yourself a lot of time and frustration by getting a new tin!

[ P.S. And some companies do small, relatively inexpensive "sample pots" which allow you to try it out before you plunge in and buy a big tin. ]

No, It will probably make it a very odd flat colour. Try adding a drop or two of brown paint until you get the desired colour. But don't forget, don't put to much in at first because if it's to much it'll be ruined. Also, always start out with a couple drops and then mix and if not the desired colour add another drop until it gets to the colour you want.

Adding black will simply make it a darker orange.

To make it more red and less orange, you need to add more red, or remove yellow. You could try neutralizing some of the yellow by adding purple, but that will make the resulting color more of a brownish shade of red.

I'd dump it and start over.

No. The only way to get paint that is more red is to add red. If it isn't the colour you want, take it back to the store and see if they can fix it.

it will make it purple or flurescent grey
