My furniture is white if that helps :)

(The cheapest ways possible please!)

No, don't cover it. Your fireplace is the focal point of the room. It's has character. Just makeover & upgrade it. So lucky that U already have those built-in bookcases. That's another plus. Look @ this photo which gives U some ideas that U can turn your room to something similar. You even has a larger room & full wall bookcases. Your room has character & lot of potentials. Paint the room plain white. Simple, yet elegant. Again, pls don't cover the fireplace. Just upgrade the mantel & the upper part of the fireplace.

I have to agree with Mr K . That is a cool room. I would not cover it I would highlight it.

But if you really want to you can do it with drywall. Have someone build framing , screw the drywall on ,tape all the seams. corner bead on the edges, three coats joint compound, sand, prime and paint it

Why would you want to? That is the best feature of that room (I really like those floors too). Put a bunch of candles in there or something.

That is a great room.

You may use ethanol / ags fireplaces, then no tension with covering!!

You could cover it with a radiator cover which won't damage it if you want to remove it at a later date.
