Red on a table is a a very festive color, often used for holiday celebrations with gold or silver accents. You can tone down the table by using a white or off-white open lace or sheer overlay. This lets the red color show through but breaks the density of the solid color. Your could try using clear glass plates or candle holders to raise red candles up from the table surface. If you want to tone down the formal look of the red tablecloth, try red and white checkered, paisley, or striped placemats with white place settings.

You mention having white place settings accented with blue, and whether a blue tablecloth would work. Blue is a more casual look for a table. If you do decide to go with a blue shade for the tablecloth, do not try for an exact match to the blue on the dinnerware, just a complimentary color. Again, using a lace or sheer overlay can change the extire look of the table. Blue you also keep the table arrangements from looking too formal because you could incorporate printed and patterned fabrics in the accessories along with a wider selection of flowers, candles, and even plants for focal points. Another look you might consider using is a simple white tablecloth or a white overlay with the brighter solid color beneath. Then play up the underneath tablecloth color using placemats, runners, overlays, and accessories.

I think reds, blues, and yellows go together. You could get some candle holders with gold/brassy tones. A table runner could have the same colors. Just look at various decorating websites to get inspiration. And a color wheel will help you to see which colors complement each other. Best wishes!!
So I decided to get all fancy and get a real tablecloth, which is nice, but nothing I have seems to look good on this table with this red tablecloth. The color is slightly darker than solo cup red without going into a wine/rose red, the area is also lit with the crappy lights that give everything a slightly yellow look(not that that is really important) but yeah, runners, chargers anything? I want candles in the center but the only ones I have are red and they don't really stand out at all. Any help is good help please and thank you.
and also, on a side note... am I better off getting a blue tablecloth if my dishes are white/blue?If so, what goes with that?
