What does the can of poly say about when you can walk on the new finish? I know the print on the cans is small and getting smaller every year, but it does include that info. Myself, I wouldn't let anyone in that room for 3 days, just to be sure. Going into other parts of the house is up to you. Some people can handle fumes just fine, others can't.

Give it 24 hours. You could easily mar the finish before it fully hardens, and you'll likely loose more brain cells than necessary.
