I have found that used furniture is built WAY better than anything you can buy in a store for your price point. Sure, you may have to give a used set some tender love and care and perhaps change the hardware, but it is well worth it. Besides, this is all your budget will allow.
if you are in houston texas- try the salvation army furniture store beechnut at hwy 6. be very patient - you will see a lot of junk and one nice piece. last week when i was there, there was a drexel piece amid all the junk.
