I don't know, but in middle school wood shop class, I made a cutting board out of purple heart wood, and something else. I can't remember what, though. That was in the 70s. Sorry I didn't answer your question, but I just had to mention that. I hope you find some. That's a nice wood you rarely see. That would be a very nice gift to receive. That person must be very special to you.

Hey folks! I'm making an end grain cutting board as a gift for someone next weekend and I have no idea where to get exotic pieces of lumber. I have been using poplar and maple for others I have made that I got at Home Depot but I want to go over the top with this one. Does anyone know of a lumber yard near Chicago that sells this stuff? Thanks!
