Why do my photos look better in halogen lights?

Because the CRI (color rendition index) is truer with quartz, which is why they use it in art galleries and museum exhibits. You do need to make sure any quartz lighting you use for displays have UV filter lenses on them or those wavelengths will fade and damage the photos. Some of the new cooler temperature lower wattage LED light bulbs give great color rendition without the problems with short life, heat output and UV that you get with quartz.

All halogen and incandescent bulbs have a color rendering index of close to 100, meaning you get true colors. With fluorescent and LED, you need to check the CRI of the individual bulb -- some might be in the 70s or 80s, which will make colors less vibrant.

Another factor is that halogens have a higher color temperature than incandescent bulbs. At 2700K color temperature, photos taken with incandescent lighting can appear yellowish. Because halogens are 3000K, they are closer to the whiter end of the light spectrum, so some of the yellow is reduced.

Hard to say, but I know for a FACT that my selfies look better when taken in TOTAL DARKNESS ;)
