"Water bug" infestation?

The outside roaches have several names. Wood and tree roaches are 2 more names. They like moisture. Putting some roach killer or spray in the trench or filling it up with dirt will take that home away from them.

They can crawl up pipes under the sink. Sealing up around the pipes and any place you think they come in will help.

try google it also

I'm not exactly sure what the correct name for these as if tried looking up ways to get rid of them, I hear different names for them. "Water bug", American cockroach, German roach etc. To save confusion here is a link to what I think they look like. http://pubs.ext.vt.edu/444/444-288/444-288.html. But the difference is the ones I have are more of a dark brown to black in color, and they're huge! Like 3 inches huge! I just moved back into my parents house temporarily, and i have been...."tolerating" them. But last night was the last straw when one crawled over my back while I was in bed. Ugh, then proceeded to fly around the room as I was smacking it with my shoe and using a pillow as a shield. Surprised I didn't wake my kids. We have an idea where they are coming from. Under the house. Apparently when the house was originally built, they never filled up the "trench" after the foundation was built. So when it rains it floods, foundation shifts dramatically etc. So how can we get rid of these gross things safely? We have 2 dogs and 2 young children. They are mostly active at night, but I still see them during the day, and they are not limited to one or 2 rooms, they are everywhere! My dad has sprayed around the house, and many of them die, my mom and I pick up dead ones regularly, but they keep coming! I can hardly sleep at night knowing these things are crawling/flying around in the house. I don't know much about them either. What do we do???
