Yes, it's normal to be red and swollen and it's normal to crust up, also. That's the part of the healing process. If it's warm to the touch, is painful, and starts oozing anything yellow-green, you've got an infection. You could go see or call your piercer, if it's really concerning you. But it's a fresh piercing, so I wouldn't worry too much. Try Sea Salt soaks and make your own solution. They work wonders! 1/4 tsp of UN-IODIZED SEA SALT to 1 cup of warm water, stir with a q-tip until dissolved, hold cup up to piercing or use cotton ball to soak up the solution and leave soaked cotton ball on the area for 1 to 5 minutes, use q-tip soaked in solution to clean around the balls, rinse with warm water and finally, pat dry with paper towel** Do this only 2 to 4 times daily and don't touch the piercing unless you're cleaning it.
It sounds like it is, I would go see your doctor just to be sure &before it possibly gets worse!
