I believe so...I don't see why not. Some might say that certain pairs of jeans work better than others on making shorts, but as long as they fit you in the waist and hips, I don't see why you couldn't use them. A thing of note, the pockets, a lot of shorts have worse pockets than jeans, so you might not be able to go as short, but hey, that's the point of customization anyway. You get to decide if you want them right at your crotch, or further down.
Just buy them about 2 sizes too big, and belt them high on the waist..idk, I wouldn't think they look right or comfortable that way unless they are leggings that look like jeans, high waisted now. Idk
Only if the jeans are high waisted as well! It's easy to find some at old stores like good will or I have made some out of my brothers jeans because they are large so I can pull them up to my waist and insert an elastic band on the inside of the hem. Type in on YouTube how to make high waisted shorts and they have good videos explaining what jeans to use!
